Special Education |
Special Education services for eligible students with
disabilities are provided in all four schools in the Rutland Windsor Supervisory Union.
Each of the elementary schools provides Resource Room services where students receive specialized
instruction according to their Individual Education Plans. Resource Room instruction can take place
either in the Resource Room or in the child’s classroom, and is provided by special educators and paraeducators,
in conjunction with classroom teachers.
Black River Middle/High School has two Resource Rooms, one for high school students and one for middle
school students. Specialized instruction is provided in both the Resource Rooms and in the classrooms.
Another option for middle and high school students is our Life Skills Program. In this program a special
educator and a paraeducator help students obtain functional skills which will help them in future life activities.
Each of the schools in the Supervisory Union also provide related services, which include Speech/Language
Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Adapted Physical Education. These services are designed
to help students attain the goals established in their Individual Education Plans.
For some students, whose Individual Education Plans require more specialized instruction than can be
provided within the regular school setting, there are program options through our Regional Collaborative
in Springfield and in various private school settings.
