Essential Early Education |
Early childhood is the optimum time for children to acquire the
foundation for skills they will need in elementary school and beyond.
Each year our early childhood program provides a screening for all children
three through five years of age. Children are assessed in the areas of
speech/language, fine and gross motor skills, social interaction, and
problem solving abilities.
For children who do not appear to meet developmental milestones, a
further evaluation may be warranted. An Evaluation Planning Team will
then schedule a comprehensive evaluation to determine if the child has a
disability caused by a developmental delay or a medical condition.
Children with a developmental delay or mental condition may qualify for Essential Early
Education (EEE) services. These services can include speech/language
therapy, occupational and/or physical therapy, special education
teacher instruction, or other services as appropriate. As with school
age special education services, an Individualized Education Plan will be
developed and reviewed at least annually.
Every effort is made to ensure smooth transitions for children. If a
child has received early intervention services prior to age three, the
EEE team will engage in transition meetings at least six months prior to the
child's third birthday. For children entering kindergarten, the EEE team meets
with the kindergarten teacher and elementary special educator at least three
to six months prior to the child's entrance into kindergarten.
