RWSU Receives An Expansion to the 21st
CCLC Grant to Expand into Ludlow and Mt. Holly Elementary Schools
On August 2, 2005, Rutland Windsor
Supervisory Union received a $120,000 state grant to continue running
the 21st Century Community Learning Center After-School
Program at Black River Middle School and expand into Ludlow Elementary
School and Mt. Holly Elementary School for the 2005-2006 school year.
The 21st CCLC Program is a key
component of President Bush's "No Child Left Behind Act." It is an
opportunity for students and their families to continue to learn new
skills, to discover new abilities after the school day has ended, and
to experience academic enrichment opportunities.
The program in Ludlow will be offered
to students at Ludlow Elementary School in 6th grade, and
for 7th
and 8th graders at Black River Middle School. The
program at Mt. Holly Elementary will be for grades 4-6.
The program runs throughout the school
year from the end of the school day until 5 p.m. Students meet after
school for a snack, then have Homework Club where they work with
teachers and para-educators on homework assignments and other
enrichment activities. Following Homework Club, students participate
in activities such as swimming at the Jackson Gore Spa, creating solar
powered vehicles in Fun with Science, working with visiting artists in
Art Club, working with the community theatre group in Junior Theatre
Troupe, creating a poetry book in Art of Poetry, and many others.
Transportation at the end of the day will be provided.
The first of five sessions starts on
September 12, 2005. Parents who are interested in signing up their
children for the program can contact Janet Pipkin, Program Director at
802.228.4652 or at jpipkin@tds.net. |
